Why you should consider an e-bike

The world and our modern lives are ever evolving, with new technologies being introduced for transport, computers, and smartphones. There is however another technology quietly flourishing. That is the Electric Bicycle.

E-Bikes as they’re known are becoming increasingly popular. More people are realising their many uses, and utilising the various benefits they offer. Once a rare alternative, E-Bikes are now booming in the mainstream market.

So what separates an electric bike from a regular bike?

An electric bike has all the features of a regular bike with the addition of an electrical drive system. This consists of a battery, a motor, a way to integrate the motor’s power into the drivetrain, and a way to control that power.

When you ride an electric bike you don’t need to worry about getting halfway and finding yourself exhausted. The motor is your friend, and will get you home feeling refreshed, with energy left to enjoy your evening.

Don't get us wrong, electric bikes are still very much ordinary bikes. They still need to be pedalled, shifted, and steered like you would any other bike, only with the added benefit of having a small engine to assist with your pedaling. If you're looking to complete a multi-day e-bike ride, we definitely recommend some practice on a variety of terrains and regular riding to make your trip more enjoyable.

What are the benefits of riding an E-Bike?

They’re eco friendly, efficient and super easy to use. When turned on, the electric pedal assist kicks in for an added boost and to help with hill climbs. No longer do you need to worry that you won’t be strong enough, or have enough endurance to complete a ride. If you have injuries or physical conditions, an electric bike gets you out having fun.

They’re also a great equaliser when different members of the family have different strength and stamina levels. With a little extra power, rough terrain is no longer an issue, and daunting headwinds won’t slow you down. No longer will you have to worry about keeping up, but simply focus on spending quality time together. New places, new people, new experiences, and with electric assistance to minimise the physical challenges.

I really enjoyed having the electric bike. I ride regularly (have one at home) but do not have a lot of stamina. Having an electric bike meant I could ride with my super fit husband (and beat him up hills!). The bike performed well. On road I could maintain 22km/h up hill if i worked it. It charged in 2-3 hours each night. It is heavier than the other bikes but handled the trail well.
