Frequently Asked Questions

Our adventures are first and foremost holidays and can be undertaken by anyone in a reasonable state of health and fitness. All of our trips are graded, allowing you to choose a suitable trip. We recommend that you familiarise yourself with our grading system and to speak with of our team members on the physical requirements of your trip.

When you choose one of our guided trips you'll enjoy the company of our experienced guides who are with you from the time you arrive until the time your trip concludes, and a small group of like-minded travelling companions from around the world. We include everything from a support vehicle to accommodation, most meals, snacks, maps and pre-trip departure info. The maximum group size is 14. We provide 2 guides on trips with 8 or more travellers. If you are cycling, one of our guides will be riding with you and one will be driving the vehicle. If you need to rest your legs at all, you'll be able to ride in the support vehicle once you reach it's next access point. New Zealand weather is extremely changeable so it's important that you bring waterproof gear and plenty of layers. Polyester, wool, or nylon is best. Avoid cotton as it holds moisture and takes a long time to dry. We provide a full gear list with all of our pre-departure information.

For some this refers to weather, for others it means how busy it is. The weather is warmest between December and February. The trails are less busy during November and April with still weather and autumn leaves in April.

Our trips run regularly from October to May each year. Our winter trips run from July through to September and our private group tours can run year round. View all dates on our trip pages.
