NGA HAERENGA,
THE NEW ZEALAND CYCLE TRAILS
This project came to life with funding from the Government
in 2009 as a way to generate economic, social and environmental benefits for NZ communities. Today, more than 1 million people use the 23 dedicated Great Rides per year. ‘Nga Haerenga’ means ‘the journeys’, both in a physical and spiritual sense, which is exactly what you will experience when you ride the trails with Adventure South NZ.
ELECTRIC BIKES AVAILABLE
TRAINING TIP
You can expect to ride on a variety of trail surfaces including smooth gravel, loose gravel roads, rough shingle and sealed roads. Practice cycling on a mix of loose and compacted gravel as the more experience you have on each surface the more you will enjoy it!
Electric bikes are becoming an increasingly popular way to ride the trails. If you are a little nervous about your fitness, or cycling ability, an electric bike might be a good solution for you. TRAINING TIP
Although the profile of this trail would suggest it is downhill, there are more hills on this trail than any of our other Cycle Trails so to get the most enjoyment from the tour you will need to practice some hills.
