Meet our team
Reliability is the key to our team.
Whether talking to our office team, or our guides in the field, everyone at Adventure South is committed to providing you with the best possible experience. All of our staff are keen travellers at heart - we know what you're seeking out of your experience - and we are here first and foremost to help you get the most out of your time in our wonderful wilderness.
Mike Smith General Manager
Mike loves the outdoors. He is a passionate skier and mountain biker, and has recently reconnected with a road bike as well. Mike worked as Marketing Director for Whakapapa and Turoa Ski Areas on Mt Ruapehu in the North Island before working as the General Manager for Ruapehu Tourism and finally becoming the General Manager for Adventure South.
Louise Vargaya-Conza Reservations Co-ordinator
Louise is camp mum. She ensures our clients are re-energised with delicious meals and can rest their wary bones in a comfy bed after each day’s activities on tour. She organizes any pre and post tour accommodation. Louise also guides cycling tours over the winter months for us in Peru with her Peruvian husband Rudy.
Janet Oldham Operations & Group Sales
Janet oversees all of the operational aspects of the company. She also works with group enquires and bookings. If you have a bunch of friends keen to join us on an active holiday in New Zealand or internationally, Janet is the person to get in touch with. She is from Australia; Aussies stole the Kiwi Pavlova so we stole Janet.
Valerie Henderson New Zealand Sales & Admin
Val is often the first person to greet you when you contact us. She’s a friendly Southerner so any questions just fire them at her and she’ll enjoy helping you. She also processes trip bookings and sends through confirmations. Val’s our voice on Facebook and on our website.
Kaye Wilson Accounts Administrator
Kaye is the number cruncher of the team and she has a serious chocolate addiction. She processes all of our accounts, and she emails out the friendly reminders when the balance of a tour is due for your trips. Kaye also pays the Adventure South team - so we keep her well stocked with Whittakers chocolate.
Shelley Gabites CFO
Shelley deals with the money & our IT support, making her invaluable. Shelley watches over the company culture to keep us on track and as well as authorising Geoff’s purchases of new bikes & buses. When work is very busy she may also be found out guiding – or exploring new overseas destinations.
Simon Curtis Depot Manager
Simon manages our New Zealand depot and fleet of vehicles as well as prepping all the trips for their departure. At the end of a trip he then gets everything back into tip-top shape to head again. A little like superman he occasionally whips off his overalls, puts on his bike helmet and becomes a mountain biking guide.
Bas Kruisselbrink Guide
Bas was born in the Netherlands and was literally raised on a bicycle. At the age of 16 he cycled with a friend from Holland to Spain and Portugal and that was the start of a life full of cycling adventures. Bas loves sharing his cycle expertise and speaks Dutch, English and German and is proficient in French and Spanish.
Steve Tulley Guide
Guiding allows him to continue his life long interest in the outdoors - including mountaineering, tramping, skiing, fishing and cycling. When he’s not guiding he’s still lucky enough to be working outdoors in his own beekeeping business. Steve’s overseas travel includes trips touring in Europe, climbing trips to Tibet and Nepal, Chamonix and the Italian Alps.
Wanda Vivequin Guide
Born in Holland and raised in Kenya, Lebanon, Canada and New Zealand, Wanda developed her love for travel early on. She loves nothing more than sharing her passion for New Zealand, it’s history and its stunning landscapes with visitors to the country. Wanda is an avid cyclist, hiker, skier and lover of the Himalaya where she has visited and guided for 15 years.
Rossco Daubney Guide
Rossco loves all things sporting & the great outdoors, encompassed with an appreciation of photography and wine – not necessarily in that order. His interests include multisport, sea kayaking, hiking, biking as well as discovering ‘new’ places. Between tours he can be found with his ‘waterfront apartment’ aka campervan at the Marlborough Sounds.
Jan Kirkpatrick Guide
Jan embraced an outdoor career by completing a Diploma in Outdoor Recreation, Leadership and Management, through Aoraki Polytechnic. She then developed an outdoor programme for people over 50, which she ran for 10 years. It was a natural progression for her to move into guiding and share her love for this wonderful outdoor environment.
Brent Fagan Guide
After graduating from Otago University with a couple of degrees in ecology, Brent spent the next 15 years guiding kayaking, cycling and walking trips in New Zealand and Alaska. Brent brings a passion for New Zealand and guiding, and his understanding of our unique natural history is an aspect of our country he is especially able to share.
Peter Sexton Guide
